Chrysler Canada: Dodge Cars Finish 1-2; Driver Shepherd Scores Second Win in a Row

  • Part-time driver earns back-to-back wins, despite only 18 starts in four years
  • Seven of the top 10 cars were from Dodge
June 24, 2013 , Windsor, Ontario -  Dodge drivers raced to first and second place at last weekend’s Clarington 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario.

The headline story from the third race of the 2013 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 season was again, Pete Shepherd III. Despite being a part-time racer, the No. 7 National Exhaust/Diamond Material Handling Dodge driver led the last 54 laps and claimed top spot again, marking back-to-back wins.

While the search continues for a major sponsor for Shepherd to run a full season, his current roster of enthusiastic supporters cheer his achievements.

“CAW Local 1285 is one of his proud sponsors as he not only drives a Dodge Challenger, he is a Brampton homegrown boy,” said Leon Rideout, President CAW Local 1285, which represents Brampton Assembly Plant and other Ontario Chrysler Group workers. “He is making us proud.”

Second place went to Scott Steckly in the No. 22 Canadian Tire Dodge. Finishing 21st and 24th in the two previous races, the podium was a welcome achievement for the Milverton, Ont. native.

"We actually had good luck," said Steckly who posted the fastest lap in Saturday’s practice session. “The crew worked really hard.”

Of the top 10 finishers on the oval at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, seven were from Dodge.

Three Dodge drivers - D.J. Kennington, Jason Hathaway and Jeff Lapcevich - now hold the top three positions in the points standings of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1.
