Recall: Occupant Restraint Control Module

February 14, 2013 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -  Chrysler Group LLC will launch a recall to supplement a previous campaign that addressed a potential for inadvertent air bag and/or pretensioner deployment.

Affected are 4,278 model-year 2003-2004 Dodge Viper sports cars. The initial campaign had implications for 2002-2003 Jeep Liberty and 2002-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.

The actions stem from a thorough investigation by Chrysler Group and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The probe uncovered a flaw in supplier-produced occupant restraint control modules.

Affected vehicles will be fitted – at no cost to customers – with a filter that restores the module’s capacity to manage air bag and pretensioner deployment. Pretensioners secure occupants in their seats by tightening restraints before an impact.

Chrysler Group is unaware of any inadvertent deployments involving 2003-2004 Vipers.

Affected customers will be notified directly.
